We here at PlanetXbox360 are all very excited about some of the big upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive titles such as Splinter Cell: Conviction or Halo: Reach, but sometimes that hype overshadows great up and coming Xbox LIVE Arcade titles that should not be missed. This year will most likely be another stellar year for Microsoft’s micro gaming arcade service, starting with the company-wide Block Party event taking place this month. Whatever taste or genre of game you might favor, there is most likely an excellent arcade game coming out this year to suit your wants. So let’s take a look at some of the top Xbox LIVE Arcade titles that will keep you busy while counting down the days until your most wanted retail-releases.
5. Comic Jumper: Not much is known about Comic Jumper, but the developers behind it should be more than enough to get you excited. Twisted Pixel, creators of The Maw as well as last year’s XBLA hit, ‘Splosion Man are working on Comic Jumper as their third XBLA game. Comic Jumper revolves around a smilin’ superhero jumping from comic to comic similarly to Comic Zone, Sega’s action game for the Genesis. What we do know, is that Comic Jumper will be in the vein of Contra and Metal Slug. If anything, Twisted Pixel’s reputation for well made XBLA games should be more than enough to warrant a day one purchase.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Yes, Sonic has had a few “rough” patches ever since Sega left the console business, but hold your heads high Sonic fans, Sega’s latest attempt at making Sonic fun again looks promising. From the short teaser trailer we were shown recently as well as a leaked video of the game, Sonic 4 is going back to the realm of 2D like he should have long ago. But what should give you hope that Sonic 4 won’t be another failure? The developer of course! Sonic 4 is being developed by Dimps, the studio that released Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure, two DS games that have been the only well received Sonic games since I can remember. There couldn’t be a better team working on Sonic 4 than Dimps. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be released in episodes which should be an interesting turn for the series, with the first releasing sometime this summer.
3. Super Meat Boy: Super Meat Boy is an exclusive WiiWare title releasing in 2010 that looks fantastic. It is a 2D platformer where you guide Meat Boy through spikes, saw blades and other glorious death traps to keep him from being mutilated while trying to reach Bandage Girl. It is a gore fest of a game with blood covering each level from the large number of deaths you will likely have on your initial play through. The game looks very challenging and like it could be one of the best downloadable titles of 2010...for the Wii. So why is an exclusive Wii title showing up in our countdown? The reveal was taken straight from the official Twitter account of SMB, pretty much assuring everyone that Super Meat Boy is too hardcore to stay a Wii exclusive and that it should be splattering all over our dashboards sometime in 2010.
