Everyone loves a good ride, especially if the vehicle is armored, reliable and capable of laying down gratuitous amounts of death and destruction in such a way that even the four horsemen would be left blushing. Whether it flies, walks, treads or wheels its way across potential battlefields, the most important thing at the end of the day is that it either gets us there or allows us to take out as many people as we can before we have to ditch out and get our hands dirty. While it’s doubtlessly entertaining to punch the enemy in the face, being up close and personal, when the distance is the limiting factor – nobody wants to walk. So, for everyone who has ever had to walk into a hostile town, read through our list of the top 10 vehicles and remember why it’s better to ride in style.

10. VB-02 Vertibird (Fallout 3): The VB-02 Vertibird is a tilt-wing VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) vehicle for the post-apocalyptic survivor who wants to locate, close with and destroy just about anyone or anything in armored style. Well-protected and virtually armed to the teeth, this thing can decimate just about any landing zone before you have a chance to even step off the bird to clean up the meaty chunks left behind, if anything at all. A fully charged Gatling Laser in addition to a missile rack has enough of a punch to create craters and fleshy-colored-craters across the landscape with equal contempt. Additionally, if you have a pet Deathclaw, it never hurts to bring it along, especially when you’ll be away on long distance ops. While initially created before the bombs fell, the design was mass produced in secret and has since become synonymous with surgical strikes and close air support. So the next time you need to land in hostile territory with a ride that can surely kick its fair share of ass, the Vertibird just may be the way to go. Just watch out for those Mini-Nukes – they’ll always ruin your day.
9. Leviathan (Unreal Tournament 3): In a three-way toss-up between the Elephant command vehicle from Halo 3, the Derrick from Gears of War 2 and the Axon Leviathan, it had to go to the Leviathan based solely on the sheer amount of pain it can dish out to the enemy and continue on rolling. A five-man rolling fortress for all intents and purposes, this assault vehicle is more mobile gun platform than it is vehicle, but only slightly. With a main cannon controller by the driver as well as four shielded turrets manned by passengers turned gunners, you’ll be able to constantly bring a steady stream to anyone in any direction at any time with zero inconvenience. Moreover, the driver can also bring to bear a massive super-cannon to bear at the cost of mobility while the vehicle braces to fire, but with the amount of damage you’ll be doing, I’d wager that you won’t be noticing all that much.

8. M808B “Scorpion” Main Battle Tank (Halo): In the infamous words of Sergeant Avery Johnson, “This here is 66 tons of straight-up, HE-spewin', dee-vine intervention!” and the man couldn’t have been more correct. While the events of the Human-Covenant war would serve to bring the tank into common knowledge, it was serving with UNSC forces well before then. Considered to be a “light” anti-vehicle platform by most conventions, its armament makes it anything but. At 66 metric tons, the tank is not something to be trifled with lightly and its 105mm High Velocity Cannon has served to remind more than one Covenant Commander of that fact. Toss in the 7.62mm Machine Gun capable of spewing a nigh endless stream of armor piercing doom and it’s clear to see why this tank continues to be fielded against the split-lip bastards who are crazy enough to attack it. Conversely, four independent track pods and a thick layering of Ceramic-Titanium armor ensures that the tank can dauntlessly dish it out and take it, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Finally, the ability to bring four friends along situated on the tracks offers a modicum of fire support that should easily discourage any infantry foolish enough to get within range, especially if those four happen to be Spartans.
