This weekend there were rumors swirling that the upcoming motion-camera hardware for the Xbox 360, currently going by the name Project Natal, would cost somewhere around a whopping $200; coming out of off-shore retail websites. The story was first picked up by gaming
website Kotaku and then spread around the internet faster than most forest fires. Even though it seemed kind of crazy we wanted to clear up the rumor as best we could. As with all rumors we were very weary at first, and shot off an e-mail to Microsoft spokesman Aaron Greenberg for an official response, his quote is below:
Our retail partners are not yet aware of details on pricing for “Project Natal” and pre-order placeholders are purely speculation. We will share price details with partners and the public as we get closer to launch, but are working hard to bring ‘Project Natal’ to consumers this holiday, and it will work with every Xbox 360.
As expected all of the leaked pricing details are "pure speculation" and from what we can imagine are as far from the truth as possible; it would be pure suicide for Microsoft to price the Natal hardware anywhere near the cost of a low-end Xbox 360 console. Stay tuned for official pricing and release date details next month during the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), PlanetXbox360.com will be on the show floor bringing all the information to you.
