Microsoft has officially announced what and when the five titles that make up the 2010 "Summer of Arcade" are releasing, and they'll begin dropping later this month. Our top two choices are Castlevania: Harmony of Despair and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light but to be honest all five look like great arcade choices; look forward to full reviews of the entire line-up as the Summer progresses.
LIMBO on July 21, 2010: Experience the hauntingly beautiful world of “Limbo,” and take a journey of exploration with a boy uncertain of his sister’s fate. An Independent Games Festival award-winning title, “Limbo” is both hauntingly beautiful and philosophically provocative.
Hydro Thunder on July 28, 2010: “Hydro Thunder Hurricane,” a full-featured sequel to the longtime favorite arcade racer, blasts rocket-powered water speed-boats across dynamic water surfaces in gorgeous interactive environments.
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair on August 4, 2010: Designed by Koji Igarashi, producer of the legendary Castlevania series, “Castlevania: Harmony of Despair” delivers loads of multi-player gameplay and lets you stake it out 1:1 to see who’s the best vampire hunter.
Monday Night Combat on August 11, 2010: Third-person shooter “Monday Night Combat” fuses intense combat, finishing moves and game show-like challenges into wild action unlike any other.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on August 18, 2010: Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft makes her downloadable debut in “Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light,” her first-ever co-op multiplayer action/adventure game. Infused with Classic Tomb Raider hallmarks, choose your own solutions and explore the dense jungles of Central America on a quest to defeat the evil Xolotl.
Each game retails for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), though if you buy all 5 during the Summer of Arcade you'll get 1200 points back straight from Microsoft, or 400 MS points back if you buy just 3 of the downloadable titles.
