Xbox Live Matchmaking is Dead, For Now

In a bitterly horrifying turn of events, tonight's Gears of War party was murdered before it even began, and we are not alone.  Matchmaking for every single Xbox Live game is out of commission.  The problems are manifesting themselves in different ways, including freezing while searching for matches, and empty game lists.  You might have thought the problem was you, and while that may be true in other parts of your life, this time you can't be blamed.

Major Nelson, the king of Xbox Live programming has already posted a comment on his blog about the problem, saying "If you’re having some issues connecting to Xbox Live, or getting into a game (matchmaking) the operations team is aware of the issues and are working on it. I’ll post an update when I have one. In the meantime, hit the single player campaign of your choice while the team takes care of business."
