Today the NPD Group released it's monthly sales figures for the video game industry, both hardware (systems/consoles) and software (individual titles) are included in the monthly report; for June 2010 the Xbox 360 sold 451.7K units on the hardware side (winning the overall next-gen console war for this month) and had only two of it's games crack the top 10 on the software side of things. The big winner on the software side of things continues to be Rockstar's gem Red Dead Redemption, selling over 500,000 copies on the Xbox 360 alone and another 380,000 on the Playstation 3 (not that the game isn't worth every penny). With the release of the new Slim console the Xbox 360 managed to squeak past the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii in terms of overall systems sold during the reporting period. Expect this trend to continue as Microsoft begins to ramp up production of the Slim for the Holiday season - it's a positive sign that they had a successful E3 and are starting to make a larger impact on the overall market.
