Today Microsoft finally released the official pricing for it's motion sensing technology, titled Kinect, that will be releasing to the gaming world exclusively for the Xbox 360 in November of 2010; as a stand-alone product the camera will cost $149.99 (packaged with the game Kinect Adventures) or gamers who currently don't own a Xbox 360 console can pick up the Kinect hardware bundled with a newly announced Xbox 360 Slim Arcade (also bundled with Kinect Adventures and 4GB of internal memory) for the reasonable price of $299.99. Remember, Kinect will work with every Xbox 360 ever made. This new Slim Arcade unit will also be available for purchase by itself in a couple of weeks, on August 4, 2010 for $199.99, and the storage can be upgraded in the future once Microsoft releases the stand-alone harddrives for the Xbox 360 Slim systems. More pricing news was officially announced as Microsoft said today that the first-party Kinect retail titles will cost gamers $49.99, a little bit less than current retail Xbox 360 games (they run $59.99).
"Our focus really was making sure, out of the box, that consumers have a great experience," Microsoft's very own Aaron Greenberg told Destructoid.com shortly after the pricing announcment. "And so, we felt like including a full retail game in that offer was the right way to go to market."
Below we have the official packaging images for the Kinect stand-alone hardware (with Kinect Adventures) and the Xbox 360 Sim Arcade/Kinect bundle. Considering the cost to walk out of the store with Sony's Playstation Move I can't say that I am too surprised by this announcement; $150 is not a huge investment for the kind of technology upgrade Kinect offers, and it comes with what looks to be one of the more enjoyable, long-lasting titles. Stay tuned to PlanetXbox360.com for more details on this exciting piece of hardware as the November release date nears.
