There are two multiplayer modes in Over G Fighters and while they offer more of what the single-player campaign offers, they aren’t quite as stable. The mechanics become a little different online because you have to do more chasing than you do in single-player. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work that well in this game and overall it’s just not an entertaining or fun experience.
The single-player missions expand into branches which let you choose which parts to fight, by picking one you block out another. There’s a good chance you won’t get all the achievements and planes by playing through the whole game once and it seems this is how the developers wanted to expand the replay value of the game. Although this is a pretty good idea on how to make people replay the game multiple times, it can also seem very monotonous. Since many of the missions are quite simplistic, it just ends up being more of a hassle than a challenge.
Final Word
So far on the Xbox 360 we have 2 fighter sims, Blazing Angels and Over G Fighters, unfortunately both of them miss the fun factor. Over G feels like it is an over-the-top realistic sim, but at the same time lacks many of the factors that make realistic games attractive to console players.
The single player campaigns are weak, the multiplayer is mediocre, the graphics are bland, and the audio could be better. This is a very average game, it could seem fun to a few that are into planes as it offers a large variety of them; taking them for a spin and watching the replay can be cool from time to time. But, overall Over G Fighters simply fails to provide an entertaining experience.
