Another week, another rumor. This time the web is on fire with the supposed leak of a new version of the Xbox 360 in development, and on the way "soon". The mega-blog engadget is reporting that it has received photos and inside information from a Microsoft mole detailing a new project codenamed Zephyr that adds 100GB of hard drive space to the 360, cools down the processor and slaps an HDMI port on the back.
The report belongs squarely in the awesome if true, but unconfirmed category. With nothing official to be found, we can't know what price to expect or what other features will be included. (HD DVD anyone?) If the slim PS2 or the DS Lite are indicative of progressive console strategy, we would see the price point stay the same on the "Super 360". Microsoft could also choose to scramble the bundle a bit, leaving out a cable here (video), or adding one there (wired instead of wireless controller) to offset the added expense of a beefed up console.
You can see a photo of the alleged Zephyr above, but I know there are some folks out there who are very handy with a dremel and some plastic. If true, a new console is best news to the uninitiated, but a fat drive like that might make it hard to resist my dream of a dual machine coop station.
