The weekly Bungie update brings us news on the Halo 3 beta entry requirements, camera's and controls in the game, and also tells us that Bungie is looking for proper Halo 3 testers.
Frankie didn't go into much detail on the features of the new camera that will follow you around as you play Halo 3, but he did have the following to say:
Lars demoed some of the proposed features for me, and it basically gives the player (cameraman?) a lot more control than you’d expect. That said, it’s all dev work and if it causes problems, breaks stuff or proves untenable, it won’t make the cut. I have a good feeling about it, however. We also learnt that the final controls for Halo 3 are still being toyed with, but it won't really matter because they will be customizable to pretty much anyones taste, and what's more you should be able to change them from anywhere in the game:
Personally one of my favorite control features right now (probably only truly vital in a dev environment) is the ability to change my control scheme at will, from anywhere in the game – Lobby, gameplay, pause menu – wherever. Saves that frantic four seconds at the start of a match when you realize some left handed, communist octopus was using the controller before you.And if you were thinking of getting into the Halo 3 beta program by buying Crackdown, then you'd better make sure that you have a hard-drive. The just-released boxart for Crackdown features a sticker on it saying that if you want to participate in the beta, you need to have a hard-drive (bad luck for all those core pack owners!).
Finally, Bungie are looking for full-time testers for Halo 3 and they are fielding applications from qualified adults. I wonder how much mail they are going to get...
Oh and we’re hiring. Normally you guys can skip these mentions, since we’re usually looking for experienced engineers, or Disney-quality animators, but this time you may in fact be qualified. We’re ramping up test and need folks interested in becoming Halo 3 testers. It’s a contracting position, but that’s full-time hours for qualified adults only please. Check the details here.
