3. Acquiring the Portal Gun in Left 4 Dead: This one requires some ingenuity on the part of the user, but as with the previous Easter eggs is completely worth it. While playing Left 4 Dead press the guide button on your Xbox 360 controller. Then go to games and attempt to launch the XBLA version of Portal. If done correctly – you’ll hear the sound of a portal being activated on a pliable surface but the game will not launch. Resume the game and then you’ll just have to discover where the portal gun is in Left 4 Dead. While no one has found it yet, it’s hidden away near something that looks like its right out of Aperture Science. Once acquired however, it seemingly breaks the game and for obvious reasons cannot be used in a multiplayer game. However, you can use it to cross most of an area in the span of a few seconds, which should make all that aggravation seem like a thing of the past.
2. Playing as the Covenant in the first level of Halo: Combat Evolved: With Halo: Reach coming out in less than a month, it seemed like more than an appropriate time to let this one out of the bag. When meeting Captain Keyes for the first time on the bridge of the Pillar of Autumn, he’ll hand you a pistol. Immediately shoot him in the face, which will cause Marines to come running. All you have to do is kill 100 of them by any means possible and you will immediately have the level restart. But, instead of showing the opening cinematic from the perspective of the humans, it will show things from the Covenant viewpoint. You will also be allowed to select whether you play as an Elite, Grunt or Jackal during your initial assault as you storm the Pillar of Autumn in an attempt to slaughter Master Chief and every human on board.
1. A level from Duke Nukem: Forever is hidden in Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA: Perhaps the best kept secret in the video game industry, it is also the most incredible. After playing through the XBLA version of Duke Nukem 3D, upon completing the game nine times (One for each letter in Duke’s full name), the game will cut to a third person perspective of everyone’s favorite ass kicking hero as he is rendered, in real time, from his early PC sprite to the avatar we all expected to see when Duke Nuken: Forever hit store shelves. Returning to the first person perspective, players will immediately notice the significant upscale of graphics and will need to stop and sit down for a minute while they attempt to put their pants back on, which coincidentally will have just been blown off by the sheer awesome of what they’re seeing. It bears noting that you should really enjoy this while you can, since the ability to do this is directly tied to how many times you play the game. In order to unlock the level again, you will need to beat the game another nine times. Kick ass and chew bubbles gum.
