Japan Finally Shows 360 Some Loveby Nelson Rodriguez
Though Sony and Nintendo have almost instantaneously overtaken Microsoft in Japanese console sales numbers, December turned out to be the Xbox 360's best month in the old Nippon. Blue Dragon, a game designed to appeal to the Japanese market, seems to have helped Microsoft sell just under 100,000 consoles, making for an even better showing than 2005's launch.
Total console sales in Japan are at 290,467 for Microsoft, while Sony has taken just a few months to get the PS3 to 466,716 and Nintendo crossed the million mark with an extra 135,671 to spare. Certainly the reasons have been wrestled and griped over, with no definitive answer in sight. The success of Blue Dragon suggests that game content, or at least the perception of it, influences some Japanese console buying decisions.
