Red Dead Redemption DLC Review - Undead Nightmare

    by Robert Workman

We apologize for the lengthy amount of time it’s taken for us to post our review of Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, Rockstar Games’ latest downloadable add-on for its hit Western game. Truth is, there’s only one thing to blame for the delay – zombies. We’ve been having such a damn good time running through town and riling up piles of the undead that it’s been way too hard to stop. Unlike previously released downloadable content, Undead Nightmare contains both abundant single player and multiplayer missions. In the six-plus hour story mode, you’ll guide John Marsden through a journey of zombie killing and mission completing, while hunting a few zombified animals on the side. In multiplayer, you’ll be able to take part in the Horde Mode-like Undead Overrun, and Land Grab, where you try to obtain as much property as possible. Overrun is way more fun…and challenging, for that matter.

Rockstar has done a top-notch job making this downloadable content creep up on you. The undead are a nasty sight, and the terrain has been almost completely redesigned with a horror motif, so you really feel like you’re roaming about in a zombie western. The new dialogue is terrific, with a few humorous lines thrown in for good measure when you work through the game’s conclusion. You’ll want to return to it more often than the original Redemption itself. After all, you don’t have to put up with the Honor system when you’re killing zombies. In all, Undead Nightmare could be considered the best downloadable content we’ve seen for a game this year. Its quality is unsurpassed compared to other DLC, and the amount of stuff you can do is almost limitless. We’re still dragging zombies in front of trains, and not feeling a bit of loss over it – and that’s the way it should be!

    Final Recommendation: Buy it.
