It's time to continue our series of yearly "Top Xbox 360 Games" articles (click here for 2009 and click here for our 2010 list), and 2011 looks to be one of the best so far for Microsoft's gaming console - remember this is purely a predictive list; PlanetXbox360.com will announce the annual Game of the Year awards for 2010 later this month. 2010 was a great gaming year, giving us such instant classics as Call of Duty: Black Ops, Super Street Fighter IV and NBA 2K11. But we have a feeling that 2011 is going to be even bigger, with games that barely missed the list like Homefront from THQ, Brink, Bioware's Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution from Square Enix and Crysis 2 (anyone of these four games could take top honors in 2011, but a list had to be made) ready to invade our console sometime over the next twelve months, among others. Here now our top ten picks for Xbox 360 games that we believe will simply-put blow us away and end up being some of the top titles in the next twelve months.
Portal 2: Bad news: the cake is still a lie. Good news: you probably won’t care, because Valve’s very elaborate, top-notch sequel to its puzzle/first-person adventure game will no doubt live up to the hype. Featuring bigger levels, more challenges, more droid types (Stephen Fry’s robot will crack us up) and the return of GLADoS, this game is bound to become an instant favorite.
Bulletstorm: Epic Games has usually been known for its Gears of War games (including the third chapter, see below), but it could very well have a hit franchise on its hands with this incredibly over-the-top first-person shooter from the folks at People Can Fly. Bulletstorm lets you chain together all sorts of crazy attacks, from whip flinging to projectile tossing to bullet firing, into one unforgettable gaming experience. And just wait till you see the bosses in the game. Whoa!
Gears of War 3: The Gears of War legacy comes to a close next fall, when Marcus and his troop face off against the Locust Horde to save their planet once and for all in this long-awaited sequel. Gears 3 will feature all new enemy types, along with improved gameplay techniques, bigger stages, and new multiplayer tweaks, including the option to play as the Locust Horde for the first time ever. We want to drop tickers on people so bad, it’s not even funny. Let’s hope it doesn’t get delayed again.
