Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Character List Breakdown

    by Robert Workman

The full roster for Capcom’s epic fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds has been revealed, and you’ll be able to choose from 36 great combatants…at first, anyway. More fighters are expected to be introduced from Capcom over the course of the game’s release, via downloadable content. We already know Resident Evil’s Jill Valentine and Marvel’s Shuma-Gorath will be available, courtesy of the game’s Special Edition. (A separate download should be available as well) We’re also eager to see if any rumored characters show up, such as Phoenix Wright. As we all wait until next week for the most-anticipated fighting game of 2011 - Marvel vs. Capcom 3, let’s run through all 36 of the fighters that we know will be included in the game, and whether they’re worth your time. Stay tuned to this article for any DLC character updates should they come in from Capcom, the game hits store shelves next week and PlanetXbox360.com will have a full review around that time.

    1. Akuma - Which side? Capcom, part of the Street Fighter series - Power level: 9. The guy is completely bonkers when it comes to his power attacks, including devastating fireballs, Dragon Punches and hurricane kicks. Plus, his name translated is “Devil”. ‘Nuff said.

    2. Albert Wesker - Which side? Capcom, part of the Resident Evil brand - Power level: 9. No question that Wesker will be an absolute badass for whoever tries to use him. Fast-moving attacks make him a force to be reckoned with.

    3. Amaterasu - Which side? Capcom, from the game Okami - Power level: 7. What Amaterasu lacks in power, he more than makes up for in speed and precision. Plus he looks insane doing it.

    4. Captain America - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers. - Power level: 8. With his trusty shield at his side and Super Soldier abilities intact, Captain America is a force to be reckoned with.

    5. Chris Redfield - Which side? Capcom, part of the Resident Evil series - Power level: 7. Chris Redfield simply doesn’t look as tough as other characters in the series. Still, with his trusty sidearm and other powerful weapons, he isn’t a slouch either.

    6. Chun-Li - Which side? Capcom, part of the Street Fighter crew - Power level: 8. Chun Li is an oldie but a goodie, a strong warrior who uses fireballs, spinning bird kicks and thrusting leg attacks to teach her opponents a lesson. Plus she ranks high on the hotness meter.

    7. Crimson Viper - Which side? Capcom, part of the Street Fighter IV brand - Power level: 7. Street Fighter veterans will no doubt be used to C. Viper’s skills, but she’s just a notch below Chun Li in terms of effectiveness. Still, we won’t brush her aside.

    8. Dante - Which side? Capcom, part of the Devil May Cry series - Power level: 9. Between his badass blade and his twin pistols, Dante can’t be stopped.

    9. Deadpool - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 10. Like Dante, Deadpool has pistols and a sword. He also has a smarmy attitude and comical quips galore, an unbeatable combination.

    10. Doctor Doom - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 8. Though he lacks the kind of killer precision that other characters possess, Doctor Doom can still mop ‘em up on the floor like nobody’s business.

    11. Dormammu - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 7. We haven’t seen too many of Dormammu’s attack styles yet, but the ones we have seen are fiery and devastating. Not bad.

    12. Felicia - Which side? Capcom, part of the Darkstalkers crew - Power level: 8. She’s quick, agile, sexy as hell and quite good at nailing enemies with her claws. Love it.

    13. Hsien-Ko - Which side? Capcom, part of the Darkstalkers crew - Power level: 9. Between her swinging blade attacks and her ferocious, oversized claws, Hsien-Ko is one spirited woman that should be ideal for battle.

    14. Hulk - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers - Power level: 9. Hulk’s got size and lots of it, and he’s damn near unstoppable in a fight. You go up against him, you prepare for a pulverizing.

    15. Iron Man - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers - Power level: 8. Iron Man’s weaponry is his greatest asset, including plasma beams and all sorts of devastating power suit moves.

    16. Magneto - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 9. Damn, Magneto knows how to put the hurt on someone with his metal-commanding abilities. Watch out for this guy.

    17. Mike Haggar - Which side? Capcom, part of the Final Fight gang - Power level: 8. It would’ve been nice to see Zangief in the game, but Mike Haggar is the next best thing with his power moves and spinning fists.

    18. M.O.D.O.K. - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 6. This guy’s way too large for his own good, but those who master his moves should be able to pummel opponents handily.

    19. Morrigan - Which side? Capcom, part of the Darkstalkers crew - Power level: 8. Morrigan’s held up well in versus contests over the years, so there should be no reason for her to start slacking now.

    20. Nathan Spencer - Which side? Capcom, part of the Bionic Commando series - Power level: 7. We would’ve preferred Super Joe, but Nathan’s bionic arm reach and powerful gun attacks make him hard to resist. Lose the dreadlocks, though.

    21. Phoenix (aka Jean Gray) - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 8. Hell yes, Phoenix finally arrives and she’s in a fiery mood. Chances are she’ll put Dormammu to shame in every fight he’s in.

    22. Ryu - Which side? Capcom, part of the Street Fighter crew - Power level: 9. Traditional yet just as strong as ever, Ryu’s Dragon Punches and fireballs make him hard to resist for old-schoolers.

    23. Sentinel - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 8. The upside? Sentinel is as great as he always was, big yet destructibly good. The bad? He may not come in the mango color. C’mon! Mango Sentinel!

    24. She-Hulk - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 9. All the strength of Hulk, but with sheer beauty and speed to boot. We’d love to see who wins in a fight with these green titans.

    25. Sir Arthur - Which side? Capcom, part of the Ghouls n’ Ghosts series - Power level: 8. With various weapons, breakaway armor and great agility, Arthur is a noble addition to the Capcom side.

    26. Spider-Man - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers - Power level: 8. Fast-moving and definitely strong, Spider-Man hits his opponents hard with web attacks and plenty of swinging attacks. Heads up!

    27. Storm - Which side? Marvel, part of the X-Men - Power level: 8. Don’t call this girl a weatherwoman, she really knows how to conjure up some stormy fight moves.

    28. Super-Skrull - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 7. Super-Skrull is zippy as hell and definitely a threat to anyone (not just the Fantastic Four), but he’s missing that certain something. At least, to us.

    29. Taskmaster - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 8. Hey, if this guy can whip the Avengers’ asses with his swords, imagine what he can do to an every day character. Ouch.

    30. Thor - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers - Power level: 8. FINALLY! Thor makes his debut in fighting games, with his power in one hand and a hammer in the other. Don’t get in his way.

    31. Trish - Which side? Capcom, part of the Devil May Cry crew - Power level: 8. This badass chick can hold her own in battle just as well as Dante can. In fact, we’d like to see her and C. Viper mix it up ASAP.

    32. Tron Bonne - Which side? Capcom, part of the Mega Man universe - Power level: 8. We’re giving her two thumbs up mainly because of her Servbots. Because not only are they cute and loyal, but also quite lethal. Especially around lunchtime.

    33. Viewtiful Joe - Which side? Capcom - Power level: 8. Lights, camera, beatdown. This guy held his own last year in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on the Wii, and he’s doing more of the same here.

    34. Wolverine - Which side? Marvel, part of the Avengers - Power level: 10. Yep, we can’t get enough of Wolverine, with his adamantium claws and his bone-ripping attacks. Let’s go, bub!

    35. X-23 - Which side? Marvel - Power level: 8. Want a sexy alternate to Wolverine? Then go straight to X-23, a female prototype with a few claw attacks of her own. Damn hot, this one is.

    36. Zero - Which side? Capcom, part of the Mega Man universe - Power level: 8. While we’ll miss Mega Man’s departure from the series, Zero fills the role with his Plasma Blade and his various attacks. Hell yes.

Final Boss: Galactus - Which side? Marvel - Power level: Infinite. Not a playable character, but a final boss that will no doubt crush you flat – THEN eat your planet.
