If you’re a development team working over at Activision, you clearly haven’t had a good week. Days after shutting down production on Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Tony Hawk, the publisher isn’t done yet. A report indicates that, by the end of this week, the racing developers at Bizarre Creations will be no more. Bizarre Creations got its start a long time back developing the Project Gotham Racing games for Microsoft, as well as the hit Xbox Live Arcade game Geometry Wars: Evolved. Shortly after the release of PGR 4, Activision purchased the developer and put them to work on a number of projects, including the arcade-style racing game Blur and the latest James Bond adventure, Blood Stone.
However, financial woes forced Activision to lay down the closure hammer on the company, though reps indicate that the publisher was no help, interfering with projects and failing to provide enough marketing dollars to make them profitable. Sigh…it’s sad to see Bizarre Creations go, especially after years of such wonderful games. We certainly wish them the best of luck wherever they go from here.
