THQ and Volition Games introduced a pivotal new mode today for its upcoming action/adventure game Red Faction Armageddon, set to hit store shelves on May 31, 2011. It's called Ruin Mode, and it's got a lot in common with the Wrecking Crew mode introduced in Red Faction Guerrilla...but with a few differences in tow. Like Wrecking Crew, Ruin Mode gives you the option to trash stuff. Granted, you don't have access to most handguns like assault rifles and shotguns, but you do have your hammer, which does a lot of damage, and plenty of explosives. This mode really puts the new Geo-Mod 2.0 technology to the test, as literally anything in the game -- even the tallest buildings -- can be destroyed.
Ruin Mode shows some signs of improvement over the original Wrecking Crew, though. It's fully leaderboard supported, so you can compete against your friends and try to get the highest score possible. There's also a multiplier system, so you can really boost up your point count depending on how much you bring down within the timer range.

Challenge Mode is new to this mode. Here, you've got one minute to
destroy everything you can, with the score multiplier in check. Once
you do that, your high score posts to the leaderboards, and you can
keep gunning for the highest point count. What we're most eager for, though, is Freeplay. Here, the score and time limit are turned off, and you can simply destroy whatever you want without penalty. This is just the sort of mode we need after a stressful day at the office, you know? Look for a preview of Red Faction Armageddon soon!
