Some real life advanced warfighters are using the Xbox 360 controller during in-the-field training maneuvers as a part of an Army effort to futurize combat technology. The photos below are taken from the official Army website, clearly showing one soldier using a wired controller attached to a cross-com like device to control remote vehicles, while keeping an eye on the soldiers in his squad.
Put through its paces during the first ever live-fire exercise, the tech-plus-war project is known as Future Combat Systems. Fans of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter will be shocked to recognize the technology at work. Sergeant First Class Richard Haddad, with the FCS Evaluation Brigade Combat team, explained some of the functionsality to an
army.mil reporter,
"With the Future Force Warrior Individual Ground System, every Soldier knows where their fellow Soldier is, even if they're not next to them."The fact that the developers saw fit to install a 360 controller in the soldier's rig can't be a coincidence. With the average soldier growing up playing video games, it only makes sense that the tools would be adapted to fit. I can only imagine the arms manufacturers are also watching video games for an occasional good idea. Or Ubisoft is secretly an arm of the CIA posing as a French games company.
