There is no doubt that 2011 will be a big year for Xbox 360 when it comes to hit games, with some of them – Crysis 2, Bulletstorm – already making the rounds, and others – Mortal Kombat, Shift 2: Unleashed – coming in a matter of weeks. But what about the games that are expected to be “sleeper” hits, the ones that the gaming community recognizes more than the masses? Well, there will be plenty of those, and here now are ten games that we believe will set the tone for gaming greatness, even if they don’t sell in the multi-millions. These should definitely be “sleeper” hits for the next-gen consoles set to release in 2011, later this year we’ll take a look at the major players.
10. Otomedius Excellent (Konami) - It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly two years since Konami announced this shooter title for Xbox 360, but, yeah, the Gradius-inspired game is still in the works and (possibly) lined up for a late summer/early fall release. Like Death Smiles II and the imported Cave shooters before it, it should definitely attract shmup fans with its colorful visuals and unique power-ups. That would be Excellent, for sure.
9. Shoot Many Robots (Demiurge Studios) - Don’t call it “just another Contra”. Shoot Many Robots is an action game with a little oomph behind it, between the gun-toting lead that won’t stop at anything until all robots are demolished and the ability to customize your characters, with everything from a tutu to a Viking helmet. This one looks like a lot of fun, and it gets straight to the point of destruction. Like all good action games should.
8. Supremacy MMA (505 Games) - While a lot of you think that you’re covered in Octagon fighting action with UFC Undisputed 2010 and EA Sports MMA, there’s another contender that may be worth a look. Supremacy MMA not only introduces a level of brutality not found in those previous games, but it also lets the ladies enter the fray, smacking each other in the face. Hell yes.
