On paper this may sound user friendly, and in some aspects it is. However, it is an extremely tedious process to complete. For example, if you wanted to program the Nyko remote to control television volume you would have to program that specific function to a specific button to raise volume. Once finished, you would then have to program an additional button to control lowering the volume. This can be applied for any remote function, they must all be programmed separately, one at a time and so on. Monotonous I know. I programmed the Nyko remote with 6 functions from 2 different remotes. Once completed, it worked great although I was forced to bust out the original when changing Bass and Treble levels. I refused to go through the motions of programming each button when the original remote is so much easier to use.

On the upside the Nyko Intelligent Remote works great for regular 360 functions. If using a controller to shuffle through DVD playback or menu options on the Xbox 360 has become tiresome this remote would be a great fit. Skipping movie chapters, shuffling music, and navigation are done quickly and easily. When used for 360 purposes only the Nyko remote works well as advertised
Likewise if the intent is to program only a few minor functions from numerous remotes all is good in the land of channel changing. If you intend to use various specific commands such as television resolution, picture modifications, and stereo options, a more encompassing universal remote would be best suited to your needs. The Logitech Harmony universal remote would be ideal, but priced at $129.99 the Nyko Intelligent Remote is an affordable alternative. However, the Microsoft Universal Media Remote is only $10 more than the Nyko model. If funds are low but you are in need of a remote the official Microsoft Xbox 360 version would be the best available choice.
The limited functionality and tedious programming methods prevent this product from being fully recommended. It does have its upsides although it has far more downsides than anything. Nyko took a chance but unfortunately came up short.
Overall Score: 5.5/10
