Rumor around the internet today was that John-117, the Master Chief himself would make a cameo in the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3. However, Epic Games lead designer Cliff Bleszinski has put a hold on fans' hopes and confirmed that the Halo star would in fact make no appearance in the new title. Bleszinski went on to say that he did approach Microsoft on getting the rights to bring Master Chief into the game as a cameo but apparently Microsoft is too “squeamish” to let their beloved hero make such an appearance.
Bleszinski had planned to use the cameo for multiplayer. Both the Halo and Gears of War series are rated “M” though Microsoft sees Gears as too over the top for their liking. I guess the thought of Master Chief in a COG suit while getting his arm sawed off or even blown up didn’t settle well with them. Gears of War 3 is currently in the multiplayer beta testing phase and is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 this coming September.
