Crackdown Gets Day One Patchby Nelson Rodriguez
When you buy your copy of Crackdown and rush to your 360, you'll be delayed for a minute while the title gets patched before you've even had a chance to experience the problems being fixed. The developers acknowledged last week that the game would be receiving a mandatory first day patch to fix some of the pre-release problems being experienced in co-op mode.
The game is currently experiencing lag and temporary freezes while in cooperative missions. Running a fully streaming world over Xbox Live for two players seems like a challenging bit of coding. If retail purchasers never experience the trouble, then you have to respect Real Time Worlds and Microsoft for launching a patch right away.
Unfortunately, the patch will not address a major snag in the "jump in, jump out" co-op mode. Launching cooperative play in the full game is anything but smooth, forcing the original player to back out of anything they're doing and waiting through a load screen.
Starting your game over from a supply point every time a pal joins or quits your game isn't the kind of easy co-op we came to expect thanks to Gears of War. It would be great to see a day two patch to fix this co-op trouble, but I wouldn't count on it.
