It’s really hard to believe that we’re just ten days away from playing what could be the most innovative game of 2011, Rockstar Games’ L.A. Noire. Granted, Rockstar’s stunned us before with the Grand Theft Auto games, as well as last year’s mesmerizing Red Dead Redemption. But this time around, we’re in for an experience that will truly engulf us. In fact, we’ve broken down ten things that will really make your jaw drop when you play this game. Here now are those ten things.
The atmosphere: Rockstar Bondi went to painstaking lengths to assure that the player was sucked into the world of 1940’s Los Angeles, where crime was rampant and literally no one could be trusted. Several vaudeville stops are recreated in the game, as well as other authentic touches such as suits and cars. Literally everything in the game drips old-school Noir flavor – and we couldn’t be happier.
The story: Like Red Dead Redemption and the GTA’s, L.A. Noire does have a general storyline to cover, but it’s not a point A to point B thing. You’ll have to work your way up in the ranks in order to even tackle the bigger crimes in the city, which are loosely based around the Black Orchid case files. And even when you get there, you’ll need to examine every aspect of it with razor-sharp attention. Which leads us to…
It’s not just guns and cars: When L.A. Noire was first announced, many thought that it would just be a Red Dead Redemption in the 40’s. Sure, there are some shooting segments, along with car driving and the occasional fist fight. But you’ll also need to do your fair share of thinking in the game in order to get ahead. Several pieces of a crime scene will need examining, and you’ll interrogate suspects and witnesses in an effort to find the raw truth about a situation. It’s truly a thing of beauty – and not as impossible as some of you might expect it to be.
