Quiet DVD Drive Confirmed by Microsoft

During the gamerscoreblog podcast, which is an audio extension of the Microsoft community team website, the discussion turned to the new DVD drive rumors.  The internet was right.  New drives are, in fact, being supplied by BenQ for any Xbox 360s produced after the end of last year.

Aaron Greenberg, ultimate Xbox Live insider was asked to speak on the details of the drive.  Surprisingly, he admitted that he learned about it first from the web, and had to investigate further to see if it was true.  Although he was not able to confirm the exact details of when they were first introduced or why, he conceded that upgraded hardware is always being considered and that the new DVD drives are real.

The new machines are known to be much quieter than the ones found at launch.  This means that any new owners, or those unlucky enough to have their old machines break, might be experiencing a dramatically more peaceful private gaming experience.
