With the upcoming release of Duke Nukem Forever being less than a month away, we here at Planet Xbox 360 figured that it was a good time to share some notable quotations from the library of sir Nukem. From pop culture references to straight up trash talk, the Duke has shared his various nuggets of wisdom with gamers for over twenty-five years. From now until the games release, we will be sharing little snippets of Duke’s wit with you in a variety of categories. This week’s feature will focus on the top ten movie referencing Dukeisms; so break out the popcorn and put the kids to bed cause it’s about to get nasty.
10. “Blow it out your Ass!” – Duke Nukem 3d - Duke Nukem shouts these famous words after blowing up an alien to pieces with one of his signature explosive. This line is a reference to the John Carpenter cult classic, They Live. The quote comes straight from the mouth of WWE Legend Rowdy Roddy Piper, whom was the film’s lead star and protagonist. In the film, Aliens have somehow managed to become the ruling class by using alien technology and TV signals to appear human. Only the Rowdy is able to see these aliens through the use of his trademark “alien spotting” shades. You could even say that Duke followed in Rowdy’s footsteps, as Rowdy was sporting shades and kicking alien ass three years before Duke Nukem’s first game.
9. “Dying ain’t much of a livin, boy.” – Duke Nukem: Time to Kill - Quoting Clint Eastwood is a surefire way to show your foes just how much of badass you can be. This particular quote comes from the classic western, The Outlaw Josey Wales. How can you dislike a guy that quotes classic westerns while shooting up alien scum? The answer is that you can’t!
8. “Eh… Just a flesh wound.” – Duke Nukem: Zero Hour - If you don’t know what this quote comes form, then you need to slap yourself in the face and then immediately run to your local dvd store. Ask your friendly neighborhood clerk for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Tell him/her that if they don’t have the dvd, then you will be forced to “Bite your legs off.” If the clerk fails to get this reference, then Planet Xbox 360 gives you permission to slap the taste out of his/her ignorant mouth.
