A Hollywood blockbuster film adaptation of Gears of War is currently in one of the most feared film process stages, “development hell”.
Cliff Bleszinski confirmed in an interview that the film was indeed in “development hell,” meaning that the film is not advancing in the development process, but the project is not officially cancelled.
“Who knows what’ll happen. It took however many years for Peter Jackson to make Lord of the Rings,” said Bleszinski.
“Hollywood is a complicated beast. There’s all sorts of weirdness going on with who’s working on it, what’s going on here and there. But, hopefully it happens.”
“Maybe the Gears 3 success will generate more interest in it. I’d love to see it. I’d rather have a movie that’s great and true to the franchise, than a movie that sucks. I’d rather not have a movie, than a movie that sucks.”
Numerous other film adaptations of video game titles have been in “development hell” for quite some time like Kane and Lynch and Halo. However, as we all know, most video game films turn out to be a disaster, so don’t be disappointed for the long delay of the Gears of War film.
