Friends Don't Let Friends Kill Zombies Alone

by Nelson Rodriguez

A rumor hit the street last week, from the hallowed halls of EGM, suggesting that Capcom plans to release a Platinum edition of Dead Rising, with online co-op built in.  Say what?  The story also hints that the feature would be available through a download for a fee.

Adding coop like a decoder ring in a box of cereal seems insane.  Could it really be that easy to infinitely expand the replayability of a game?  Dead Rising, in its design and execution, is a lonely, lonely game.  I would think the developers wanted it that way.  The loneliness adds to the thrill and frustration that are hallmarks of the game.

On the other hand, Crackdown proved that mindless wandering and cooperative play can be a good match.  Dead Rising is a game you kind of want to share.  I sat for 30 minutes and watched someone play the game on my console just so I could spread the zombie love.  (not that kind of zombie love, you sicko!)

Is the rumor true?  If it sounds like it isn't it must be.. or maybe if you think that it is, then it isn't.  If true, would you be thrilled, or unmoved?

Okay the only thing that would make the game better they add in now? Why? That makes me upset, I have the Dead Rising already and the only way to get co-op is to buy it again? Come on honestly! I agree with Xcalibur here good idea for a part2 so save the idea!I love the game and all but i'm not droppin' another 60bones again! They better patch that option in or sumthin and start thinkin' about the people that already own the game.

If it's true, it can cause some MAJOR profit that normally they wouldn't have. I would get another copy just for CO-OP if the unlocked achievements transfer over.
