To those who’ve played previous Battlefield games, it should come as no surprise that Battlefield 3 will be running at 30fps (frames per second) on consoles. However, if you’ve been watching the amazingly beautiful trailers and gameplay footage, you may be surprised to hear this. That’s because the majority of the gameplay footage shown thus far has been running on the PC at 60fps. PCs have better technical capabilities than consoles, so many games that run at 60fps on PC will often run at 30fps on consoles. 30fps has been the American standard in entertainment for years, with 24fps being the standard in Europe.
DICE’s Johan Andersson explained on Twitter why Battlefield 3 will be running at 30fps on consoles, “We always do 30 fps on consoles, not possible to fit in vehicles, fx, scale and all players otherwise."
Battlefield 3 will be released October 25th on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
