In the past, companies have typically started a new console generation every four or five years. Though the Xbox 360 is over 5 ½ years old, there are no signs of the console slowing down, and Microsfot’s Chris Lewis had a few things to say about the remaining life inside of our Xbox 360s. Lewis, Regional VP of Interactive Entertainment, was asked where Microsoft thought the Xbox 360 was in term of the console’s lifespan to which Lewis replied, “We see it as about halfway through.”
“Xbox is defying the normal curve you might expect. There's no doubt that Kinect put a huge shot of adrenaline into the business,” Lewis continued. “What we are now seeing is massive swathes of families and younger audiences flocking to it.” Sales numbers for the Xbox 360 have been very high, outselling competitor consoles 11 times in the last 12 months. It has also been reported that Kinect has sold over 10 million units. With these numbers, it is no surprise that Microsoft thinks the Xbox 360 is only halfway through its generation. We’d love to see the Xbox 360 stick around another 5 or 6 years.
