It looks like the racing developer behind Split/Second and Pure has finally come to a sudden stop. Disney Interactive has announced that it is closing the racing game developer, following a reduction in workforce that left 40 staffers at the company.
An internal source stated that Disney handled the company badly to begin with, outsourcing projects that Black Rock could’ve easily handled. They also felt that Split/Second, which was a great game that didn’t sell that hot, could’ve been advertised way better.
We feel bad for the company, though it does live on through newly opened studios. Roundcube Entertainment, lead by Split/Second director Nick Baynes, and ShortRound Games - formed by a quartet of previous Black Rock department directors, have both been opened since leaving Black Rock.
Still, the end of an era. Sad to see them go.
