A couple of days ago we here at PlanetXbox360 covered the battle between Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 from the side of Activision's shooter (click here to read that take). This time we've turned the tables and will be discussing why Battlefield 3 is the superior title. So... without further ado, here are five reasons that Battlefield 3 will conquer the titan that is Modern Warfare 3.
5. Something Fresh - Let's face it, people love to hate on both Call of Duty and Activision. They're currently on top with the most successful franchise in gaming, and gamers everywhere are praying that a worthy competitor will kick the series of its high horse. If any title can do it, it will be Battlefield 3. The problem - and to some point the strength - with the Call of Duty games lies in the lack of innovation between titles. People know what they're getting when they pick up Modern Warfare and for many, the same thing year after year is not enough. With a slower and more focused approach to gameplay, Battlefield 3 provides a different type of multiplayer experience, one that hardcore gamers have been craving since the release of Battlefield 2. There is no doubt that DICE's shooter will be a breath of fresh air.
4. Vehicles - One thing that the Call of Duty series has been sorely lacking is the inclusion of vehicles in multiplayer, something that Battlefield 3 will have in spades. From driving tanks to piloting jets, multiplayer battles will take on a whole new dynamic that will set Battlefield 3's multiplayer experience head and shoulders above the competition. The campaign will also offer quite a bit of variety as a result of vehicles, if the E3 demo is anything to go by.
3. Realism - When I first saw gameplay footage of Battlefield 3, my jaw hit the floor. The stunning realism of the Battlefield games makes the over-the top moments in the Modern Warfare series look almost goofy. Battlefield 3 was designed specifically for gamers seeking an ultra-realistic military first person shooter. EA's title is positioning itself as the elite military experience that provides gamers with the definitive first-person shooter, and judging by what we've seen thus far, it's well on its way.
2. Destructibility - Many games have tried, but only Battlefield has been able to truly pull off destructibility. Buildings crumble in a realistic and visually stunning manner, not only making it pretty to look at but also dynamically changing the battlefield. While Modern Warfare provides a pretty standard run-and-gun experience, Battlefield 3's destructibility will make each match unique. It's only a matter of time before gamers become bored with the Activision's repetitive multiplayer matches, at which point all the bells and whistles included in Battlefield 3 will make Modern Warfare 3 look antiquated.
1. Superior Visuals - Infinity Ward created MW3 using an engine that is beginning to show its age. While the third installment certainly looks much better than its predecessors, the visuals in BF3 put the competition to shame. While much of the footage we've seen is running on a high powered PC, the demoed PS3 footage still looks quite fantastic - certainly leagues above Modern Warfare. Battlefield 3 is the cool, new kid on the block that is sure to pull many gamers off the CoD bandwagon.
