While the original Xbox is often referred to as the Halo 2 machine, there were a number of other fantastic games that graced the big black system. Among the myriad of solid Xbox titles, a handful have yet to see proper sequels. Please join us as we count down PlanetXbox360's top five original Xbox titles that merit a sequel on the 360.
5. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge - While this title is technically a sequel to the PC's Crimson Skies, its launch on the Xbox felt like the start of a new franchise in and of itself. This arcade flight shooter was a blast to play, but unfortunately didn't sell all that well. The game quickly became a cult-classic and would certainly benefit from seeing a successor. Plus, Microsoft could easily position a sequel as their answer to Sony's Warhark.
4. Panzer Dragoon Orta - Another fantastic flight shooter landed on Microsoft's console and once again, this title isn't technically the first in the series. While Orta is the spiritual successor to Sega Saturn's Panzer Dragoon Saga, it established itself as a unique Microsoft exclusive that undoubtedly deserves a follow up. Think of the control possibilities with the Kinect.
3. Jade Empire - Hot off the heels of BioWare's super popular Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire provided a fantastic role-playing experience that explored the mythical aspects of China. Unfortunately, while Jade Empire made use of many hallmark elements found within BioWare RPGs, it didn't captivate gamers like the Star Wars branded titles did. As a result, many gamers missed out on one of the best role-playing experiences of that generation.
2. Pyschonauts - One of Tim Schafer's most beloved titles blends creative gameplay and quirky humor into such a compelling package. Heralded as one of the best platformers on the Xbox, Psychonauts is a title that no gamer should miss out on. Let's hope that a sequel is in the works at Double Fine.
1. Beyond Good and Evil - Ubisoft's cult-classic action-adventure title Beyond Good and Evil put gamers in the shoes of Jade, one of the best female videogame characters of all time. The game's captivating world has such a unique art style, and its expertly developed cast of characters made for one emotional experience. Fans have been clamoring for a sequel and while one is reportedly in the works, it simply cant come soon enough.
So there you have it. While the list may not be all that long, we'd gladly take quality over quantity any day. Agree with our choices? Did we leave out one of your favorites? Sound off in the comments below.
