Crytek Refers to Their Own Engine as “The Best Engine”

    by Zach Pint

While it’s no surprise that a company is going to call their products superior to their competitors’, this is still a noteworthy story. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has called the CryEngine 3 “the best engine.” He backs up his claim by stating, “We are actually the only engine on the planet, including Unity and Epic, that is 100 percent real time. People underestimate what it means to be 100 percent real time.”

Crytek plans on supporting all relevant platforms with the CryEngine 3. “We will support every platform that’s a major player in the industry of gaming,” Yerli said. In addition to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Yerli also highlighted mobile devices and the Wii U as platforms which will be carrying CryEngine 3 games.

Yerli went on to explain how Crytek plans on using the CryEngine 3 to really explore the capabilities of Kinect. “Kinect is a major diver for future platforms as well, so Kinect support is important. Having basic Kinect support in the CryEngine is one thing, but I’m talking about really supporting it deeply. CryEngine is going to have deep support.” Since they are calling this the best engine available, I’d say they better give the Kinect this kind of support.
