There's no denying that 2011 will go down as the year with some of the biggest head-to-head battles in the history of gaming. With Battlefield and Modern Warfare duking it out for the envied position as the year's best military shooter, there are a number of other genres facing similar competition, most notably the third person shooter category. There's really no question that Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3 are the front runners in this category and will be competing for our time. Before you all start chewing my head off, I realize that these are two very different games, and while Uncharted is much more of a platformer and Gears is a more tactical and competitive shooter, the reality is that gamers not only have limited time, but they also have limited funds. So I'm going to break down for you why Gears of War 3 is the better choice if one should find him/herself in such a predicament.
5. Co-operative Campaign - Sure, Uncharted will offer a co-op mode, but nothing compares to blazing through the entire story with a buddy. One of Uncharted's strengths is that it presents the campaign in such a cinematic package, unfortunately, this rules out the possibility of sharing the experience with a friend. Not only will Gears of War 3 allow you to play with a friend, it will support up to four players, allowing you and three of your pals to all experience the campaign together. Not only does this add an entirely new layer to the experience, it also extends the replay value of the campaign.
4. Better Online Community - The lasting value of any game is really dictated by its online offerings, and the beauty of Gears is that you can be sure gamers will support this game long after its release. The online community ranges from hardcore to newb and everything in between. Unfortunately, in the case of Uncharted 3, while the multiplayer is fun, it likely won't support a very strong community, threatening the overall viability of the multiplayer in the future. And with a 10-15 hour campaign that while undoubtedly will be one heck of a ride, provides little replay value to the consumer.
