Remember playing through Gears of War and losing Anthony Carmine in the very first act? Or playing Gears of War 2 and having Benjamin Carmine get killed inside the Riftworm? Or choosing the Carmine character in multiplayer knowing full well that this was a bad omen? Yeah, us too. So while we think we know the fate of Clay Carmine in Gears of War 3, we cannot be sure.
This is because Epic Games wrote two separate endings for the character of Clay Carmine. In one of the endings he continues the family tradition, while in the other ending he defies fate and actually ends up living. Last year, Epic Games gave gamers the choice to let Carmine live or die. In a charity event that raised $150,000, gamers could purchase an avatar t-shirt that either read “Save Carmine” or “Carmine must Die.” Which ever virtual shirt sold the most would decide Carmine’s fate. Just in case the game leaked, Epic wrote two endings for Gears of War 3. Now that it has leaked, Epic Games is threatening to ban any gamer that leaks the ending online.
Gears of War 3 is set to release on September 20, exclusively for the Xbox 360. Whether Carmine will be there at the end of the game is still unknown.
