According to Valve President Gabe Newell, the PC version of Portal 2 sold better than either of the console versions of the critically-acclaimed puzzle game. The PS3 version supported Steam, cross-platform play, and cloud saving, while the Xbox 360 version was restricted to, well, the Xbox 360. Valve and the fans of Valve have much love for the Steam service and everything this allows, so it comes to no surprise that the PC version of the game would sell better than the console versions.
Newell never knows which platform a game will be more successful on. “We can never predict; I mean we just try to build good games and then we tend to be surprised,” Newell admitted. “Portal 2 did better on the PC than it did on the consoles; Left 4 Dead did better on the consoles than it did on the PC. So you know we don’t try to guess, because we’re not sure what value there is to guessing.”
This is an interesting bit of Portal-related news, which should help hold you over until the Portal 2 DLC is released later in September.
