Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has once again pulled out his crystal ball as he predicts the outcome of this holiday season. According to Pachter, the PS3 will outdo the 360 this holiday season, so long as Microsoft doesn't drop the price of their console.
With the 160GB PS3's compelling price tag of $250 now a whopping $50 cheaper than the 250GB Xbox 360, Sony's console is quite the compelling product, especially during the holiday season.
In an interview with IndustryGamers, Pachter explained, "IF Microsoft does nothing, I think PS3 will outsell Xbox 360. However, my friends at Microsoft are extremely proud, and they absolutely refuse to tolerate the possibility that the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360. I think they have the ads printed for the Xbox 360 price cut, and will drop them on us the instant they see PS3 sales greater than 360 sales.
"In the meantime, I think we'll see a reduction in the price of the Xbox 360/Kinect bundles (similar to Wal-Mart's "goof" last weekend), and Microsoft will use that to keep the PS3 at bay until they decide whether to match price for the console only."
Microsoft has said they do not plan to drop the price of the 360 this year, as they feel confident the system will sell well amidst the PS3 price cut. If however, sales do begin to dip, it's safe to say that they'll have to rethink their strategy.
