Guitar Hero II Rocks Store Shelves

by Matt Gibbs

Activision today announced that Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 is now available on retail shelves nationwide.

Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 features an expanded track list of over 70 axe-smashing hits -- including 10 tracks exclusive to the Xbox 360 -- along with deafening rock venues, HD remodeled characters and guitars, a variety of addictive gameplay modes, and a bevy of achievement points to unlock. Also exclusive to the Xbox 360 is the ability for competitive rockthusiasts to view how their legendary performances rank on the online leaderboards. Guitar Heroes looking for even more can download exclusive gamer themes, picture packs and fresh new songs on Xbox Live Marketplace.

"With an expanded set list, blazing hot HD graphics, and a tenacious new X-Plorer guitar controller, Guitar Hero II on the Xbox 360 will allow fans to truly feel and live out their ultimate inner-rockstar fantasy," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "In addition, offering exclusive downloadable content and the added Xbox Live components such as competitive online leaderboards and tons of unlockable achievement points will help extend the gameplay experience for our hardcore Guitar Heroes to blow out more speakers and rock like never before."

Guitar Hero II, published by RedOctane, is rated T for Teen by the ESRB. Expect a Planet Xbox 360 review of the title shortly.

It's too expensive. I'll pass on this game that will end up getting old after only about 2 weeks or so.

Got this in at the office today (i'm the PX360 editor in chief) and an early preview of our review is that this game is easily one of the best titles released in the past year, it broke my top 5 360 game of all time list as well! I see me giving it between a 9 and 9.5 / 10, great freaking game and I am not even a third of the way through it... .. ...

It's weird that it's rated Teen in the US. Over here in the UK it's a PG (Parental Guidance), despite the PS2 versions being rated 12 for language.

Yeah, I love this game. One issue with the controller - the neck was made in two parts, and they join right on the part you have to rub your thumb to get to all the notes. Ow! Oh, and the d-pad is stupidly placed as it can force you to screw up a combo if you're not careful. Generally I like the X-plorer design. Bring on the DLC!

Hells yeah! Our local Wally world rolled out a PALLET at midnight with the whole display full of games all ready for consumption. We went ahead and got 2 copies because my wife wants to play and we didn't want to fight over the axe. ;) The controller is alright...the stupid Select button for triggering Star Power without having to tilt the controller is TINY! I can't wait for a nice, solid, 3rd party wireless controller to hit the market. And bring on the downloadable content bitches! Hopefully the first pack will be all the tracks from GH1 and free. =)
