Rock Band developer Harmonix has become synonymous with music-based rhythm games, but that wasn't always the case. The studio worked on EyeToy: AntiGrav, a motion-based game for the PS2. Since then, Harmonix has steered away from non music titles, having seen so much success with Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
Most recently, the developer has brought to market Dance Central, arguably the most compelling title for Kinect. With a sequel to the hit dance title nearly complete, it looks like Harmonix is ready to branch out and try something completely new.
Speaking to Joystiq at TGS, CEO Alex Rigopulos explained, "I think we're always open-minded about new opportunities. Certainly our focus always has been and probably always will be on music-themed games. A perfect example is the Kinect, which I think that through our work on Dance Central we've developed an affinity for -- towards motion gaming.
"It wouldn't be surprising if in the future we took some steps outside of our wheelhouse in music to try some new things in non-music focused motion gaming."
