As you might know only 6 of the promised 70 tracks in Guitar Hero II are available to players from the start and this has caused quite an uproar for some gamers. A GHII designer has since responded with their reasons for doing so and also provided a cheat code to unlock all the tracks.
The game promises 70 playable tracks of which only 6 are playable right at the start. Of course there are actually 70 tracks to play, but with you only being rewarded with 36 of them if you beat the game in easy mode, getting all of them under higher difficulties might prove too difficult for some players, meaning they effectively don't get access to all the tracks, ever.
Chris Canfield, one of the Guitar Hero II game designers, has since responded to GameStooge, who wrote a story on the issue, he writes:
I just wanted to say that we knew a specific subset of players strongly holds this view about gaming. We put in the unlock-all code specifically with the hope of satisfying them. It was the best compromise solution we could find. We also frontloaded as much good stuff as we could, and generally tried to ensure that they had a lot of good options at their fingertips without being overloaded. So while you may still be upset about the progression structure, you can hopefully take some solice in the fact that we were taking you into account in some way while making this game. We always try to do something for this group of players, albeit sometimes more successfully than others.
