Major League Gaming (MLG), founded in 2002 by Sundance DiGiovanni and Mike Sepso, is a North American professional Electronic sports organization, headquartered in New York City, New York. MLG has held official video game tournaments throughout the United States and Canada. Major League Gaming competitions have been broadcast on television, ESPN.com, and other broadband sites. The company has also been involved in television production, and game development. MLG's aim is to elevate computer and console game tournaments to viable competitive and spectator events. Major League Gaming acquired Agora Games on August 18, 2009. Heading into this weekend's MLG 2011 Season event (which PlanetXbox360.com will be covering) we decided to break down our choices for the top 10 epic moments of the MLG 2011 season so far.
10. Team Epic vs. TH3 NSAN3Z (Gears of War 3 Beta) - MLG Raleigh - There is not much to say about this one. MLG Raleigh offered a Gears of War 3 exhibition match between Epic developers and TH3 NSAN3Z. TH3 NSAN3Z stomped team epic but the real winner was fans of the game. It looked great and will definitely offer some great competition to the MLG Pro Circuit in the future.
9. Eon Instinct vs. Status Quo (Halo: Reach) - "Utter Domination" - Anaheim, CA - Status Quo was the overall number 1 seed going into MLG Anaheim. After a rough start in pool play, they battled back in epic fashion to reach the Winner's Bracket finals. Unfortunately for the champions they ran into an unstoppable force in eon Instinct. The number 2 seeds were undefeated up to that point in the tournament. Instinct swept Status Quo and sent them to the Loser's Bracket Finals. Although they took the match over Fnatic, Instinct once again swept them in the Championship Finals to complete an undefeated run at MLG Anaheim. Instinct's dominating performance was unrivaled in MLG history and won the tournament going 21 - 0.
8. MMA vs. Boxer - "Teacher vs. Student" – Anaheim, CA - Both players are members of the team Slayers and many have started calling MMA the “son of Boxer.” Whether they are biologically related or not (they are not), it is no secret that MMA is the protégé of the legend Boxer. This match was to decide who went to the championship finals but it was more important to the Koreans. The winner was granted a much coveted Code S spot (the premiere tournament in South Korea). Although the match was highly competitive, MMA overcame his teacher 2 – 0 to claim a spot in the finals as well as the Code S invite.
