Analysis Firm EEDAR conducted a survey in which 3,500 HD console gamers answered questions regarding their consumer habits when it came to downloadable content. Just barely over half of gamers (51%) have purchased DLC in the last 12 months, which is up from 40% last year, and 34% in 2009. While 51% of HD console owners spend money on DLC, this means 49% of gamers do not.
EEDAR estimates that DLC has brought in over $875 million in revenue in North America alone during 2011, and if the 49% of gamers who didn’t buy DLC changed their consumer habits, another $600 million in revenue would have been possible.
