With only a couple of weeks left of 2011, we here at PlanetXbox360 want to close out the year with a bang! To do so, our staff of writers has thought long and hard about these past twelve months of gaming goodness and we've put together a comprehensive awards list for 2011.
Here are our picks:
Most Disappointing Game: Duke Nukem Forever
With a development cycle that felt like an eternity, fans of the Duke franchise have had to wait an incredibly long time for this game. And now that it's finally out, I'm pretty sure fans would rather they were still waiting.
Biggest Announcement: New Dashboard Update
Microsoft's slick new dashboard was all the rage at E3, serving as a clear indication of Microsoft's commitment to Kinect and making the Xbox platform more than just a gaming machine.
Best Multiplayer Game (Online): Gears of War 3
Epic Games really knocked it out of the park with Gears of War 3. With seamless matchmaking and a plethora of different modes, Gears packs endless amounts of fun with your buddies online.
Best Multiplayer Game (Versus): Modern Warfare 3
There's a reason why the Call of Duty series is the most popular franchise in gaming history. With fast-paced, super responsive gameplay that runs at a solid 60 frames-per-second, MW3 is the ultimate competitive experience.
Best Multiplayer Game (Co-Op): Rayman Origins
Ubisoft's platforming mascot hasn't had a whole lot of time in the spotlight recently... that is, until the release of Rayman Origins. This whimsical 2D platformer bleeds personality and is an absolute blast to play with a friend.
Best XBLA Title: Bastion
Bastion will join the ranks of Limbo and Braid as one of the best bite-sized titles of this generation. The gorgeous art design and innovative use of narration sets this game far ahead of its competition.
Best Trailer: Dead Island
Dead Island's disturbingly emotional debut trailer had gamers talking from quite some time. It's too bad the game itself failed to deliver the same level of impact.
