Rockstar has finally lifted the lid on the multiplayer content that will come packed in with Max Payne 3. The mode is call "Gang Wars" and will take a very different approach when comparing it to what Rockstar has done in the past. According to the dev team, a major focus will be a narrative component that will tie directly into the story.
Lead multiplayer designer Charlie Bewsher told IGN “the narrative element of Max Payne 1 and 2, and what we’re doing with 3, is obviously very strong. So when you starting thinking about the multiplayer version of Payne I think you’ve got to address that part of the game. But there’s also a narrative unique to any multiplayer game, though – you sort of get this drama that unfolds.”
Traditionally, each round of a multiplayer match is independent from the one that came before, but in the case of Rockstar's new mode, the events of the previous round will have a direct impact on the progression of the entire match.
It also looks like they're taking a page out of Call of Duty's book and adding a "perks" system that will enhance a certain aspect of the player's skill set. There's no doubt that this will help to add diversity to the overall game experience.
Max Payne 3 is set to launch in March of next year.
