Rockstar Games have told the Official Playstation Magazine that the lack of a guaranteed hard drive in the Xbox 360 is creating limitations in the development of Grand Theft Auto IV. Note that the comments are being taken from a magazine that reports on the 360's arch nemesis - the PS3 - however that probably doesn't mean much, they make sense and what's more the PS3 is not without its own share of challenges.
Dan Houser, who is Rockstar's creative VP, was asked, "
On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?" He replied, "
Yep".
Houser continued and said that the limitations aren't just confined to the Xbox 360 version, saying, "
both have enormous challenges" and "
both have their own particular pleasures and pains".
It's also interesting to note that all the footage we have seen from the game thus far is from the Xbox 360 version - who says it's hampering development and the PS3 isn't?
