Yesterday’s news regarding the next Xbox has triggered even more rumors surrounding Microsoft’s next console. One rumor, coming from the extremely reliable Kotaku, suggests that the next Xbox will be making the conversion over to Blu-Ray. In addition to this, Kotaku is also reporting that the console will be released with an upgrade Kinect censor.
According to Kotaku’s sources, the next Xbox will utilize the much more powerful Blu-Ray disc, as opposed to the DVD used by the Xbox 360. Blu-Ray discs are capable of holding 25 and 50 GB of data, while a DVD can only hold 9 GB of data. This is one area where Sony’s PlayStation 3 has always had the upper hand, and if the report is believed to be true, Microsoft is planning on putting things on an even playing field.
The sources also mentioned that an anti-used-game system may be incorporated into the next-generation console. The source was not sure how this would be implemented, but did confirm it as a possibility. Lastly, an upgrade to the Kinect has also been rumored to launch with the next-gen Xbox. The new Kinect would ship with an on-board censor, allowing the accessory to more effectively detect motion.
