Bungie Transferring Halo Record Keeping Duties to 343 Industries and Microsoft

    by Zach Pint

On April 1st, Bungie will be handing over the responsibility of saving Halo statistical data to 343 Industries and Microsoft. No, this will not be an April Fools joke.

343 Industries, Microsoft’s personal Halo development studio, will assume the role of record-keeper from then on. "Bungie will no longer be able to update game stats and player service records, to host new user generated content, or to operate the Bungie Pro service,” Bungie wrote in a statement. "All currently supported, Bungie-developed Halo titles will be impacted by this change. Any replacement functionality, and all future Halo support, will be provided by Microsoft and 343 Industries via Halo Waypoint.”

Bungie promises to preserve all Halo statistics prior to April 1st, 2012 on Bungie.net "for as long as the Internet and Bungie's data storage systems remain functional." Bungie has been brilliant in their commitment to the Halo community and their dedication of archiving game data has set the bar for all other developers. Lets hope that 343 Industries can continue this tradition.
