The sales-to-date for Team Bondi’s L.A. Noire is approaching five million copies, which makes it the best selling new IP of 2011. The detective game edged out other new IPs such as Brink, Dead Island, and the heavily anticipated Rage for the crown. Unfortunately, Team Bondi closed down due to financial reasons in October of 2011, following a controversial outcry from Team Bondi employees claiming they were being overworked by the studio and publisher Rockstar Games.
In addition to L.A. Noire, other Take-Two Interactive games are doing quite well too. NBA 2K12 has sold over four million copies, while the Red Dead franchise has sold over 13 million units. Of course, these are franchises that have been established already.
It is always great to see new IPs succeed in an industry so full of sequels. L.A. Noire’s achievement is well deserved. In fact, this story makes the PlanetXbox360 staff want to boot up a homicide mission and relive the magic we found in L.A. Noire for old time’s sake.
