Graphically DW: Gundam is a pretty poor game. On one hand the robots themselves and their animations look fantastic. Unfortunately everything they are fighting for is ugly and bland. Many of the levels look almost exactly the same and there could have been some really cool levels with this Gundam licensing. The overall look of the game is very reminiscent to the Gundam cartoons, which will be cool to some gamers and goofy to others. Other things like effects and lighting are done well but there are some really bad tearing and distance-draw issues that cannot be overlooked. The Dynasty Warriors franchise has never been known to break down walls with their amazing graphics and Gundam follows right along. All of the story movies are done with pictures not movies, so there is nothing graphically nice to see there, as in most other games. The soundtrack is made up of some great music and the Japanese voice actors are much better than their English counterparts, make sure to switch this early on in the game.
When a developer creates a game that takes up one of my many rainy Saturday afternoons I am usually happy with the title. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is a decent sequel to a used-up franchise that really needed freshening up. The cool sci-fi elements and insanely epic battles that the game features pull it out of despair and turn it into a decent action game. The game should really only be purchased though by hardcore fans of both the DW franchise and the Gundam franchise. Considering what Gundam games are out there it doesn’t mean much when I say that this is the best one I have played. Even though the story modes are really confusing what this series has always relied on is the fun-factor of slicing up hundred of enemies on screen at one time, and that is what DW: Gundam does right. Enjoy it for a couple hours, do some co-op and then move on; that’s about all there is to it.
