Xbox Live Gamer Arrested for Threats

    by Matt Gibbs

Although it should be common sense, it appears that some people need a reminder not to say stupid stuff over Xbox Live, as a Frostburg State University student recently found out. The following story comes from the Cumerland Times-News:

Shaw was playing the game Call of Duty 4 on the Xbox Live gaming system with players around the country when he allegedly stated the threat of "shooting up the school." The statement reportedly contained a description from Shaw concerning "how he was going to do it."

Shaw was playing the role of first-person shooter on a live audio feed when he made the alleged threat.

Another player, Kaipo Damurand of Oregon, contacted the Frostburg Police Department to report Shaw's alleged threat.

Law enforcement authorities responded immediately to the report and Allieu Shaw was placed in custody while the University was put on alert. He is now facing 2 misdemeanor counts of disrupting a school operation and faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

Seems strange that the Oregon kid got the other player's full real name so he could call the school himself. Does this mean I can call the cops every time some dumb*** goes on and on about how "High" he is while playing COD4?

Well alex, he must have said something about what school he was going to. Doesnt seem very likely that the kid who reported was lying.

The point is that this kid shouldn't even be thinking about doing anything like that. The idea of shooting innocent people at school is not even close to a joke and should never be taken lightly. I hope he gets his ass handed to him because comments like that deserve all the attention he is getting. After all the deaths that have occured already because of disturbed individuals like him what was he expecting? It's peolpe like Shaw that give sane gamers like me a bad name. It's gamers like him that give the media and parents the idea that entertainment of today's youth leads to mass murders instead of focusing on how these particular individuals were raised.

Not that I condone this type of behavior or anything, but how can this be proven? Answer - it can't, they have no case against this kid, absurd
